    We invite you to the Empty Bowls & Baskets Dinner, an event dedicated to raising awareness about food insecurity, celebrating the Warming House's 50th anniversary, and supporting the newly established Endowment for Warming House Sustainability.

In April 1861, 25-year-old Sam Clemens (alias Twain) was “livin’ large†in New Orleans and working his dream job as a riverboat pilot. And then, in the blink of an eye, his life changed forever. With the outbreak of the Civil War, the Mississippi River closed to commerce. Sam lost his lucrative career, and, being somewhat faint-hearted, feared that if he stayed in New Orleans he would be coerced to join either the Union or Confederate Navy.
